Good Bye Georgia
Well we are right now in Franklin, NC. Let me give you a little bit of advice; Don’t try and write a blog after you have visited an all you can eat BBQ joint. Not as good as Mike and Ed’s but it had to do. Well today was our eighth day on the trail. The last couple of nights have been below 20 degrees so we decided to huff it into town and get a warm nights sleep in a bed. It wasn’t too hard of a decision because we saw 24 hours of straight rain followed by a 20 degree morning with 12 hours of snow that ended up being about 4-5 inches. It was about 40 something hours without seeing the sun so we were ready for some comforts. We hitched into town and found a motel for the night. So far everything is going well on the trail. Eating well and meeting lots of people. Having trouble with our water bottles freezing up on us. Today had to keep punching holes in the top layer of ice to get a little drinking water. Hiking in the snow does have it’s advantages we hiked much faster. 20 something miles and over our two highest mountains yet. 5500 feet and 5200 and some change. We really enjoy all the comments and encourage you to keep them coming. (Bill if you are checking out the site hurry up and catch back up. White Bear and Kujo we appreciate the trail magic.)
Don’t worry about us tonight we have the heat at full blast.
Okay guys, so we know Bill, White Bear, and Kujo are trail buddies. Now since y’all didn’t adopt the Ready Rick, and No Plan Man names, have you been officially Christened by any buddies yet, or still figuring out your true trail personas. And which is better? The taste of trail food cooked in the fresh air on hungry tummies, or the AYCEBBQ? Or is that like comparing apples and oranges. Am so impressed about the over 20 miles with those elevations. Sounds like you both really found your trail legs! Any interesting wildlife yet? Other than the other trailies? (And is trailie an unaccepted term?) Love, DonnaMom
No trail names yet. trying to let that come naturally. And your right about apples and oranges. A hot meal is nice after a long day but AYCEBBQ is great as well but wouldn’t be the same if we had it everyday. Ran across some deer and wild hogs. Not interested in seeing any bears.
I’m glad to read that u aren’t interested in seeing any bears Bn !! :
Courage ma puce !, bisous, BN ’s French mom.
Take care , take care ..it’s a good idea to stop sometimes and have a warm night in a motel somewhere..
In France it’s sunday ev , we had a big storm of snow in Camurac…u remember “la labière”…with Romain and the ..boat !! ..
Sounds like y’all are having fun. I’m glad you got to sleep in a warm bed with heat because it has to be good for the soul…like a fire is good for the morale- in the words of Bear Grylls the Great. Do you build fires every night or just hike 20 something miles everyday and crash? Does the snow greatly inhibit the fire-making process or do you have survival techniqes to still make them? I sent a package to your first mail drop, so don’t leave without it. Even if it sets you back a week. I mailed it Wednesday, March 5, so it should be there by now. Stay warm, and I’m thinking about y’all!
